1980-1989

"The early 80's were somewhat subdued in color, where we see a lot browns and tans and oranges. Blocky shapes were everywhere and dressing like a tennis player was the cool thing to do. Velour was hot and velvet was even hotter. For both men and women, the waistline was a little high.Bright colored accessories like sunglasses, bangles and hoop earrings were a necessity. Teased hair, loud makeup and neon were an important part of this style. This style was obviously more popular with the younger crowd. But that didn't mean “regular” women in the 1980s couldn't have fun. It was an exceptionally flexible time when a woman could wear skin-tight cotton stirrup pants with leggings and a giant turtleneck sweater one day — and parachute pants with a small v-neck top and a high-waist belt the next." http://www.retrowaste.com/1980s/fashion-in-the-1980s/

During this decade, the use of bright color emerged and many women started wearing sort dresses and skirts.

Origin: Starting at this decade, many people became obsessed with popular brands like Cocoa-cola and Nike. The new trend was basically influenced in America. America influenced China and other countries.

Purpose: The main purpose for designers to make these new styled clothing were because the styles spread worldwide and many people were influenced by it, especially women. Designers also developed them because women were attracted to their styles and the number of females in population started increasing.

Value: This piece had lots of value because it was a popular trend many people were attracted to and spread quickly from Paris to U.S.

Limitation: Though this Item shows a lot about how the world is changing and new styles are evolving, it doesn't show other peoples perspective and it doesn't show how it affected elder people and how American traditions were changing.

1970-1979

"In the beginning of the decade, women’s styles were very flamboyant. Extreme, bright colors were in high demand and long, flowing skirt and pants were everywhere. In the winter. In the summer, women wore very short shorts and skin tight t-shirts. Oh, and you can’t forget about the roller skates. With every year, pants were flaring wider and wider. It was common for a pair of women’s wide-flare slacks to have 32″ around the bottom of the leg hem. Soon the flare exploded into bell bottoms and it couldn’t go anywhere but smaller from there.Another trend was emerging and soon took over the fashion world: suits. Women were wearing pants in the sixties, but not all of them. By the time the 70s rolled around, women were wearing pants in every walk of life. Female executives were wearing business suits with pants, women at home were wearing jeans. Women’s fashion in the mid-to-late 1970s was dominated by suits. Leisure suits, pant suits, jump suits and track suits (also known as warm-up suits) were worn from coast to coast. That’s not to say that dresses, blouses, skirts and other popular garments weren’t worn, it’s just that they weren’t as important to defining the style of the times.Above all, women could finally wear whatever they wanted. Sure, gender roles still played a part in wardrobe choices, but compared to previous generations, women’s fashion in the 1970's was nothing short of revolutionary." http://www.retrowaste.com/1970s/fashion-in-the-1970s/1970s-fashion-for-women-girls/
Origin: This style of dresses originated form Pairs. The trend was introduced in Paris and then adapted through America. Women started wearing loose bell bottom pants during the early 70's.
Purpose: The purpose for women wearing these dresses was to show people that they can do what they want. They started wearing suits like men to show equality. It also showed that women can do things men can do and that nothing separates women from men.
Value:
Limitation: This piece doesn't show the affects of the Cold war. It doesn't show what went on during the time of the cold war.

"The late 1960s were the exact opposite. Bright, swirling colors. Psychedelic, tie-dye shirts and long hair and beards were commonplace. Woman wore unbelievably short skirts and men wore tunics and capes. The foray into fantasy would not have been believed by people just a decade earlier. It’s almost like the 1950s bottled everyone up so much that the late 1960s exploded like an old pressure cooker. Women were showing more skin than ever before. For the first time in the 19th Century, London, not Paris, was the center of the fashion world. The British Invasion didn’t stop with The Beatles. It swept into all parts of life, especially clothing."http://www.retrowaste.com/1960s/fashion-in-the-1960s/

The 1960's was the total opposite of the previous years. They styles of the dresses caned completely. Dresses began to get shorter, More brighter colors came a long and the new invention "Bikini" was introduced. styles kept changing in the 1960's. In 1961, a casual custom look was introduces, 1992, the wear for a lot of glow in dresses, 1993, knee-high skirts and sleeveless dresses, 1994, very short clothing and brighter colors, The 1995's brought a new look called "poor boy" in which they wore cow boy hats, white dress with white flat boots.

Origin: Most of the fashion in the US was taken from the fashion in London. Many designers in London were changing the styles of clothing and introducing new trends in fashion.

Purpose: The purpose of these dresses was to show that women were independent and were free to do what they wanted to.

Value: During the 1968, many new technology like rattling chains, zippers, brass buttons, clamps were introduced which were used on many women clothing.

Limitations: During the 1960's there were many fighting for rights like the "i have a dream speech" and African Americans wanting equality. This Item doesn't tell  much about what it was like and what hardship the US was going through.

1950-1959

cute 1950s style dress
"The boxy structure of 1940's women’s fashion came to an end in the 1950's as Christian Dior’s soft, rounded “New Look” gained popularity in America. With the men back from war, women focused on their suburban role as homemakers, and looked for clothing that was easy to wash and keep neat. Acrylic, spandex and polyester were introduced during the decade". http://shopruche.com/1950s-fashion.html

During this decade many new styles and ways of dressing up in the 1950's. The options for these types of dresses were endless.

Purpose: The purpose for the dresses was to bring a new trend in the era and remove old fashion clothes. The dresses mainly had a floral and gingham pattern.

Limitations: Although these dresses brought many changes in style during this decade, it doesnt tell much about the economic. It shows that the economic had moved on from the great depression stage  but what it doesnt tell much about the WW2,etc.
